What Do You Want More Of?
Most people today have this underlining issue of being unsatisfied and they want to fill the missing piece in their life. As a human race, created with a longing for MORE. We miss it if we pick more of anything BUT GOD! So no matter what, we try to fill ourselves with what we will always find a lack in it unless will fill ourselves with God.
We try to fill that void with an array of things, from status, items, food, drugs, alcohol, porn, gossip, social media, and soo much more. There’s not many of us today that live under a relationship with the King of the universe, where we ask God to lead us with His mighty right hand. The wisest man that ever lived outside of Jesus was King Solomon who wrote a book called Ecclesiastes, and he pretty much lays out everything other than a life fully submitted in fellowship with God is meaningless. All the things we have are gifts from God to be enjoyed and to advance further the message of who he is. So if everything King Solomon went after was found meaningless, why do we want more?
It is because every person has something called a God Shaped Whole! What is the God Shape Whole, you say? In basic terms in Genesis, we had perfect fellowship without sin in the Garden of Eden. We were perfectly created, full of genuine happiness. We like Adam and Eve will not trust God at his word and fill our souls with things that will not make us whole, but lead us to hide from God. See when we believe the lie we in our lives do just this: 8and they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. 9And the Lord God called unto the man, and said unto him, Where art thou?—Genesis 3:8-9.
In 1670, Blaise Pascal published Pensées, which was a defense of the Christian religion. (It should be noted that this book was published after his death in 1662.) In that book, he has a quote: “What else does this craving, and this helplessness, proclaim but that there was once in man a true happiness, of which all that now remains is the empty print and trace? He tries in vain to fill with everything around him, seeking in things that are not there the help he cannot find in those that are, though none can help since this infinite abyss can be filled only with an infinite and immutable object; in other words by God himself.” – Blaise Pascal, Pensées VII (425)
Fun Fact: You can’t hide from God! Hebrews 4:13-15 – 13No one can hide from God. His eyes see everything we do. We must give an answer to God for what we have done. Jesus—Our Great Religious Leader: 14We have a great Religious Leader Who has made way for man to go to God. He is Jesus, the Son of God, Who has gone to heaven to be with God. Let us keep our trust in Jesus Christ. 15 Our Religious Leader understands how weak we are. Christ was tempted in every way we are tempted, but He did not sin.
That means we all fall short, and God knows this. Our Spirit is willing, but our flesh is weak. So that’s why God sent Jesus. Praise God! See man being in perfect form in this world did not come again unto the second Adam, which is Christ, but there is story after story of men and women who had a fantastic fellowship with God and gave themselves to God’s will. They let God fill them, and they had a victory, and their stories are God’s story! It was by Faith, and it was people entirely in love and filled by God. They were sold out for him! Hebrews Chapter 11 has a shortlist of reflection of some of these people that wanted MORE of God!
I love the Song (There is a new name written down in Glory) “See I’m, now a new creation in Christ – The old has gone, there’s new life – I live by faith, not by sight – There is a new name written down in glory – And it’s mine, yes, it’s mine – I’ve met the author of my story – And He’s mine, yes, He’s mine – Sin had left me blind – But Jesus opened my eyes – Now I can see the light – I’m so glad He changed me.”
When we walk where God leads us following his will in obedience, we enter into a satisfying relationship with him! See, that is where we get the overflowing of blessings in our life and the ability to overcome some of life’s most everyday negative encounters. He is indeed my comforter, and he desires always to call us closer to Him and remind us that we are not alone. His Spirit is within us so that in our everyday life, we can have victory and walk in peace!
The good news is we do not have to wait until we get to heaven to be made whole or be full of him. Though we look forward to that day, we get to see him face to face and a what great day of rejoicing that will be! We can be filled with him, and there is always more of him. By being filled to overflowing with the living water that comes from the Holy Spirit, we can have a changing heart, changed perspectives, changed motives, change desires. That’s where true freedom and being satisfied comes from.
Paul writes several times about being filled, and one of those is found in a letter to Timothy. 1 Timothy 6:6-8 – 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.
So let us fill ourselves today with his Word and let Him change us from the inside out!
