Are You Drowning?
Have you been drifting lately? Do you feel like you are being taken further and further out to sea? Are the waves of life crashing against you? Do you feel like you drowning in deep waters? If so, don’t give up! Fight with all your might and reach out your hand. Now trust and believe that the Father will grab ahold of you, and he won’t let you go. Isaiah 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” What feels like it’s consuming you? If it’s a family drama, he can rescue you from that. If it’s broken relationships, he can rescue you from that. If it’s job loss and the lack of money, he can rescue you from that. If it’s an addiction, he can rescue you from that. Depression or anxiety, he can rescue you from that. Whatever it is, he can rescue you. He has the power to prevent your situation from pulling you under. You are not alone. His great love is with you. It’s always been with you. You have to be ready and willing to reach out and take it.
So I ask you do you feel like you’ve drifted away? Many of us have been there. I’ve been there. I’ve had times in my life where I’ve drifted too. Thankfully the God we serve is loving and merciful. He is quick to forgive us for wandering away. Hebrews 4:16 “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” He wants to help us, not punish us for our struggles and insecurities with him. Psalm 145:9 “The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.” He made you, and he loves you. He wants to be there for you. He wants to help you in your time of need.
We are all his sheep, and he is our shepherd. He will do whatever it takes to bring you safely back to him. He will go to the ends of the earth to rescue you. Luke 15:3-7 “So he told them this parable: “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost; Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.”
We don’t have to stay this way. We don’t have to stay stuck. We can cry out to him. Every time, we need him. We can ask him to send us his life vest. Today, if you struggle to fight your way back to the shore, choose to call out to him. Tell him that you don’t want to feel lost at sea. Tell him that you need him. Tell him you are sorry for drifting away. Remember that nothing can separate us from him unless we let it. Sadly many of us separate ourselves from him without even knowing it. We use lack of time as an excuse. We say I will get to him later. No, get to him now! Stop waiting and stop delaying! He’s too important to pass upon. Each day is not promised. Jesus is coming back soon. If you don’t make time for the Father, how can you be ready for Jesus’s return? You can’t be!
You might have forgotten him, but he hasn’t forgotten you. He’s still here with you every day. He’s calling out your name. Can you hear him? He’s telling you how much he loves you? He’s at the doorway to your heart, and he’s knocking. Revelation 3:20 “Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” He wants you to open the door to your heart. He wants you to open it completely. He doesn’t want you to leave it cracked or slammed shut.
He loves you very much! That’s why he sent his one and only son Jesus into this lost and dying world. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” He loves us more than we can ever put into words. Jesus loves you too; that’s why he was willing to die on a cross for us all. It was because his great love was and is bigger than all of our sins. Romans 5:8 “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
He’s trying to spend time with us every day. The trouble is this world is noisy and chaotic. His still, small voice gets drowned out. We miss what he’s trying to tell us. We miss him. Then before we know it, we start to drift away from him slowly. If you are drifting today, please don’t beat yourself up. Many of us have gone through times in our lives where we’ve forgotten how to listen truly. We’ve forgotten that he is always with us. He’s waiting for us to make time for him. We’ve forgotten that he’s still there in the still and quiet moments. Romans 10:17 “So faith comes from hearing, hearing through the word of Christ.” We have to be willing to meet him in those moments. We have to seek those moments out. We have to be willing to create a quiet space with him and for him. We need to stop letting the excuse of having a noisy, chaotic life get in the way. Our faith can’t grow if we aren’t willing to take the time to cultivate it.
Father challenges will come and go, but you will remain. Please help us be willing to make time for you. You are willing to make time for us: each day, you are willing. Help us quiet our ears and open our hearts and minds. Make us open to receive everything that you want to tell us. Help us let go of all of our excuses and fears. Jesus will come back one day. It would be a terrible shame if we let all of our excuses hold us back from fully embracing him.
Father today, I pray for the drifters. I pray for the ones that feel like they’re lost at sea. The ones that have been floating along so long they’ve lost sight of dry land. Please throw out your lifeline. Please pull them back into your boat—the boat of life. Be the one true captain of their journey through this world. Speak to their hearts. Speak to their souls. Remind them that you are always with them. They have to choose to be with you.
Who is your true captain today, dear readers? Who is the anchor to your soul? I pray that it’s the Father. Let him be your captain; let him steer your ship. He will calm the waters that are raging wars within you. He will bring you back to dry land. Philippines 4:13 “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
I pray that you’ve given him your heart and soul. I pray that you fully embrace him. His love. His truth and his healing. He is the cure to what ails you. He has everything that you need. All you need to do is open your eyes and heart to all he has to offer you. No more feeling and believing that you are too lost to be found. No more drifting. Those days are gone. What was once lost has now been found.
